Wavelets and Fuzzy Logic Application for Performance Parameters Diagnosis in Power Systems

With the increasing penetration of renewable energy sources and distributed generation in electrical systems, analyzing energy quality, identifying disturbances and obtaining a correct diagnosis of these systems are increasingly essential. Therefore, methods based on artificial intelligence and signal processing must be developed in order to handle this huge amount of data. This paper presents two power diagnostic services of performance parameters involving PQ in Energy Systems. The first one is the Events Identification, based on a method of signal processing named Wavelet Transform. This purpose will extract the main information related to the beginning and end of a transitory, allowing its identification. The second diagnostic service presented is the Distortion Analysis, and involves the use of fuzzy logic to determine the power quality of the electric system, according to the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and Voltage Unbalance (VU) input values. All services were implemented in the software MATLAB/SIMULINK. According to the results, it was possible to conclude that the identification system was able to detect the start and end times of the disturbances with high precision. It was also observed that the fuzzy system was able to make a correct diagnosis of power quality.
